São Martinho Mill concludes crushing operations for the 2008-09 harvest with a new Brazilian record of 8 million tons of sugarcane

São Paulo, December 3, 2008 − São Martinho S.A. (Bovespa: SMTO3; Reuters: SMTO3. SA and Bloomberg: SMTO3 BZ), one of the largest sugar and ethanol producers in Brazil, announces that the São Martinho Mill, part of the São Martinho Group, concluded on December 2, 2008 its sugarcane crushing operations for the 2008-09 harvest with volume of more than 8 million tons, a new record for the most cane crushed by a single mill in Brazil.

With this result, the São Martinho Mill surpasses by 18% the total volume of sugarcane crushed in the previous harvest and exceeds by 12% the last record in the industry for a single mill of 7.1 million tons registered in the 2005-06 harvest, also by the São Martinho Mill.

With the conclusion of the harvest at the São Martinho Mill, and considering the sugarcane crushing operations at the Iracema and Boa Vista Mills that are nearing conclusion, sugarcane crushing guidance for the 2008-09 harvest was revised upward to 11.9 million tons, from 11.6 million tons previously, which represents an increase of 16% in the groupís total crushing volume in relation to the previous harvest (10.2 million tons).
